Community Arts
I work at the intersection of community engagement and site-specific storytelling. My practice transforms everyday spaces into sites of shared narrative, inviting communities to explore and express their relationship with place.
In "Fire and Water: Living with Elemental Forces," I connect two communities across hemispheres – residents of Gumbayngirr Country and Zafferana Etnea, Sicily. Through parallel creative processes, participants explore their relationships with powerful natural forces: local waterways and Europe's most active volcano. The resulting installation presents individual stories that together form a collective narrative about belonging to places that both nurture and challenge us.
My work "The Belonging Tour" reimagines Bellingen's streetscape as a living gallery of human stories. Guided by The Bellingen Singers, (costume by Amanda Fairbanks) audiences encounter local community members who become living artworks through dance, performance installations, and storytelling. This roving performance reveals the layers of connection and meaning that exist within familiar spaces.
My work explores how community arts practice can illuminate the complex relationships between people and place, creating experiences that celebrate both individual voices and collective belonging.
